I'm having the same problem when I use IE, but Firefox works great.
Browser shouldn't make a difference on an error like this. This error is caused by bad database username, bad database password, database permissions issue, wrong database port, wrong database name, or database is down on server.
Hmmm...that is weird. Why can I see it using firefox but not IE?
I'm actually getting it when I try to get onto the elgg community
Are you consistently getting these errors on the Elgg community site? I just tried logging in with both Firefox 3 and IE7 and did not have any trouble.
Yes, I just tried again. Can't get on using IE but Firefox works great. I'm sooo confused as to what is going on.
I even re-installed IE7 yesterday to see if the problem was with the browser or any of the settings.
The error is a server side error so browser shouldn't matter. Very odd. Any why should my IE7 work and yours not...
I don't know...that is what is confusing me. Right after I started having problems with that. The Newest Members widget on my site started doing weird stuff too. I'm sure the problems aren't related but the timing sure did correspond.
i ran into the same problem, and i need help figuring out a way to hack the files to get around it. i'm using a web hosting service, and as far as i can tell, the only way i can create a database or a user is through their cpanel interface. that hosting provider automatically puts an underscore into the user and database.
after checking the installation error logs and the file the installation script creates in $HOME/engine, i realized that the scripts were parsing out the user incorrectly. it only took what came after the underscore.
please note, i used mysql interface to login to the database with the name that cpanel created for me.
what script is parsing this info? i just started trying to install elgg.
