System settings error after installation

Hi,

I have just installed elgg 1.7.8. The installation seems to be successful, however, at system settings page, when I click "Save" button, I got an error page on my hosting service. I have made sure to fill out all necessary fields.

Please help.

Thanks.

  • Look at the section on 404 errors when saving settings: http://docs.elgg.org/wiki/Install_Troubleshooting

  • Thanks for the response.

i have made sure mod_rewrite works, and have replaced .htaccess with renamed htaccess_dist, and I am not installing in a subdirectory. But I still get a 404 error.

The only thing I haven't checked in the list is httpd.conf file settings. Because I don't know where it is. Maybe the hosting service doesn't allow access to it? But I have installed elgg 1.7.2 on this service before, I made it work somehow. Not sure I ever checked httpd.conf file.

    Any suggestions?

  • @ben What hosting are you using? Try using the auto installer that comes with your hosting to install elgg.

  • @rjcalifornia  The service I'm using is called 000webhost. They offer free hosting (I'm not trying to advertise them). I'm not familiar with hosting business. I don't think they have the auto installer. Could you recommend someone who has it?

    Thanks.

  • @ben I used that hosting before, Elgg doesn't work on free accounts. Contact their tech support, I think they have an auto installer.
