You must log in to post replies. What version of Elgg are you using? Do you have Walled Garden mode enabled?
I am using the latest version 1.7.11
Is your site online? Are you using a custom theme?

still in logged out condition there is no system error message display....
now i ve upgraded to 1.8.5. BUt if i use elgg in default folder of my domain.. it will not show the system messages in logged out condition.
Now i am running elgg in a sub domain. i subdomain i dont find any problem of pop up messages ..
Till now i dont understand y in root html folder of my domain ... elgg is not working...(?)
you might be having server configuration (or perhaps selinux/suphp?) related issues. i have elgg 1.8.5 on rhel/centos - running quite ok - in root directory and in subfolders; and system mssgs display ok everywhere. 'walled-garden' if in use may begetting in the way. themes/plugins also maybe doing 'something' funny. hmm;-oO too many possibilities..;) what is 'default folder' for you ? public_html ?
@ dhrupdescoop, yes default folder is public_html. i tried installing fresh elgg, and this time its working.. may be my databse has any problems?
hmmm? luck-y;O flukey problms.. anyways works now ;-P cheers
