upon further looking it seems that there are alot of links in the admin pannel that also redirect to the activities page. What gives? any help would secure you a beautiful place in what ever afterlife you believe in... thanks.

Right now Elgg is directing people to the activity page or dashboard instead of sending a 404 page. In the next release, we'll be adding a 404 page.

We've had a few scattered reports of the edit profile link causing problems. I think it is likely due to a 3rd party plugin, but haven't established that for sure. If you are using any plugins related to the profile, try upgrading them to the newest versions or turning them off to see if the problem goes away.

If your using the profile manager plugin an update was released yesterday.

I have Elgg.1.8.1 clean install and do not see this problem at all.
The Edit Profile Link should goto http://Domain.Com/Elgg1810/profile/UserName/edit
So - my guess - it has to be 3rd party PlugIns that are causing issues.

well it is linking to   /profile/username/edit but it never makes it there. I tried updating profile manager. that didn't change it. then I tried deactivating all third party and unessacary plugins and I still seem to be getting the problem...  Hope we can figure it out soon.

Try uploading the Elgg.1.8 code /engine/* and /mod/profile/ again - maybe lucky..

Did you do the upgrade.php part and have you updated to the latest .htaccess by removing the old and renaming .htaccess_dist to .htaccess?

Edit profile is working fine with a 1.8.01 to 1.8.1 upgrade. Try it after disabling all thirdparty plugins.
