What version of Elgg are you using? Have you had it working previously or is this a new installation? If it was working before what did you change?

hi i think i had the same thing happen to me it was a plugin overiding the home page .try going to mods in your server file and changing the permissions which will turn them off this may help not sure though you need a techie guy.. try though
elgg_register_event_handler() is a 1.8 function. You're most likely using a 1.8 plugin, or one that was built for a later version of 1.7 (I don't remember if it was implimented in later versions of 1.7 or not).
If you're on a unix system you can go to your mod folder and do:
to find out exactly where it's being called.
Just to confirm, elgg_register_event_handler was added in 1.8. You should be able to check this for any function: It will have a phpdoc annotation that says `@since x.y.z`, which tells you which version it was added.
