How can I extend the user user timeout session? I know that its not good for security but I dont mind.

Well this won't change how frequently they have to log in. This is for action token timeout which is usually what people complain about in 1.7 when they lose their post for taking too long on the form. Elgg does have a persistent login "remember me" checkbox, maybe educate your users to use that.
oh yeah I'm sorry if i wasn't clear. I need to prolong the login. Is there anyway to do that?
The validity of the login session is one month if the user checks the remember me option. Otherwise the session is destroyed when the browser is closed.

Override the login form with yours in which the checkbox is checked or use jquery to make it checked.
Yeah, sorry about that I misinterpreted your question. I would use jquery as you can stick it anywhere and you don't have to overwrite the view.
