Hello People, I have always said that elgg is the best framework for creating a community, but something I've always been looking for a module to designate moderators if it grows the community.
There are several plugins that emulate or try to make that function such as "iapprove" and recently saw one called "Roles" unfortunately is for v1.8.x and elgg users of version 1.7.x can not implement it.
do not want to bore you with the subject (many users like me have that concern / need) so I want encourage the more experts give their opinion and contribute conclusively to resolve once and for all this issue especially for v1. 7.x
Without further ado I want to introduce:
searching and searching, I found at least what promises to make this plugin would benefit many managers elgg communities .. if anyone can adapt it and shares it with the community would be helpful .. as it is for v1.5.x, but I think changing some parameters, specifically the CSS and tokens can be adapted more easily, I'm not good programming (yet) lol, but I am a good analyst and creative.
short description:
This plugin does three things:
- It allows admins to create, edit and delete roles through a "Manage roles"
link added to the admin sidebar.
- It allows admins to assign roles to specific users through a form added to
the admin area of each user profile page (one checkbox per role).
- it adds each role to the access control dropdown box so that any user
(not only admins) can restrict the visibility of content to users with a
specific role.

You must log in to post replies.(1) Not.. post URLs which goto '404' ;-) annoys like heckz. PlZ verify what & why that '404' on the GitHub link..
(2) 'Roles PlugIn' by DaveTosh/KevinJardine *is rather.. rather two years old! and was sorta kinda abandoned by them not long after code was done & released.. much has happened in the arena of Roles since then - *two years* ;-)
(3) Roles (1.8) API, etc by Arck http://community.elgg.org/pg/plugins/project/847275/developer/arckinteractive/roles would seem to be the current fashion. Check it out - for back-porting to Elgg.1.7 -- cannot be that much code effort.1.5=> 1.7 OR 1.8 => 1.7 ? not much substantive difference, is there ?
(4) " not good programming.. but .. a good analyst.." is an oxymoron - programming = 'crawling' & analysis = 'running' --> PPL cain't run before walking.. ;-)
Roles by Arck has been a huge addition to the elgg platform. I would love to have like a group to talk about it, to help each other and collaborate with extending roles...
@DhrupDeScoop you know what?, I don't give the reason to you, Because You Already have, lol Seriously I found interesting the function of This plugin and wanted to Have An review of you (the experts) ... be clarified that webmaster is my hobby, the mine is the cinematography, so skip to the occurrence of being "analyst" and creative xD
@that's good!, rjcalifornia...
Why spend the time/effort backporting to 1.7, why not invest that into upgrading your current project to 1.8?
and take a look at vazco backwards
https://github.com/Elgg/roles
Vazco Backward plugin kinda work. Like Matt Beckett said, use 1.8 instead. It has so many new features and it is more powerful

The best option is to upgrade to 1.8. If not now, you have to do it at some point of time.
