Probabably asked so many times I can't find it - sorry!
How do I get a discussion just like this one for my site?

You must log in to post replies.Discussion is part of the groups plugin that comes bundled with Elgg.
I went back to the default theme to check it out - it's still different from what I see here
If you are on 1.8, you can see all the discussions by going to http://yoursite.com/discussion/all
The community site is on 1.7 and has minor customizations to show the latest discussion and discussions in your groups as tab.
Did it. No side panel, and the topic list looks completely different from this one
http://miscville.com/myfriends
You can see
Hello,
If I've posted this in the wrong area please let me know.
Regarding Groups, I noticed only the admin can make groups or logged in users can make groups. This is just my ignorance on the subject, for the forum / discussion I thought it would be for all discussion where the admin created the categories for all users to post and group discussion would be what users would create to discuss things amongst themselves.
Regards
Dan
I'm not completely sure what you mean Dan. We are planning to separate the discussion feature from the groups plugin, so that sites can have a forum without using the groups plugin. This won't however happen until Elgg 2.0.
Does that answer your question?
Yes it does Juho. I'm use to the old fashioned forum like phpBB, MyBB and Delphi etc so that is what I think of as a forum. Of course everyone on the site is one big group.
I'm glad to see they will be separating the two so that you can have both. I can see where in some cases people would want the old fashioned forum type feature where others would want groups and in some cases both.
Since releases can take some time, I'm not holding you to it, would Elgg 2.0 be within the next year or are we looking at maybe three to five years since we are now only approaching 1.10.0?
My guess is that it will take 1-2 years to get the discussions into their own plugin.
I was checking to see if Elgg has plugin for MyBB or if MyBB has one for Elgg and I struck on both. I guess I'll have to keep MyBB separate until then or remove it and do without a standard forum until then.
