Hi
I'm having a hard time working out the best way to administrate my users. Our installation (1.8) is for a school type organization. This is the process we need to make work:
1) User is added (this is ok)
2) User validates (I need a notifcation for this ideally)
3) User is added to the correct group.
The problem I have is that I don't get a notification when the user validates, which means I have to keep manually checking to see if they have validated and then add them to the group, which is a nightmare with a few hundred users.
The best solution would be for be to be able to add them to a group at the time of creation, or without having to wait for them to validate. I'm using the "Tom" plugin, but that only kicks in once they've validated, I know I can force them to be friends on the admin panel, but again - cumbersome.
Failing that, a validation notification system?
Or any other ideas? Is there a heavyweight User Administration plugin out there which will be similar to Joomla (where we've come from) which was very strong in this area.

hmm.. martin - if this interests you - i did some work on ll4s vls/vle in uk to manage schools, auto-groups and similar control mechanisms.
It does interest me - I read some of those posts. Do you have a plug-in available or something?
M
which posts ;) ? & abt ll4s dies off abt 1 ye back ;( i guess he cudnt kick the competition ! ll4s was automated, school reqsts look-see - they got teacher, uid + 20 test users, auto-friends within the school and sthtz like that.. similar to hrea's (they were both good clients, knew what just they wanted) thingy too. for 1 month - all 'paperwork' handled by system.
Sorry, I didn't understand any of that!
@Martin - When the user signs up, do they know the group they belong to? If so, you can allow them to choose their group during registration process. I have simple plugin on my profile called Welcome Message which checks first time a user logs in. This could be modified to send email notification once they do so (this will happen immediately after they validate)
there were several plugins and other utilites thos two had wanted and got.
@Mark I've been adding them via the backend - because it's not open to "the world", but I could enable registration to allow me to add their account, would that be the best work-around?
Group selection at Registration would be perfect! If that would all be a good work-around, how would I go about setting it up?
@DhrupDeScoop what plug-ins?
Martin
@Martin : there are no ready to use plugins available for your need. If you know a little bit of coding you can easily implement it. You need to
As a starting poing you can take a look at the following plugins
@webgalli got there first:) As webgalli says, it depends on your level of coding. May be better to hire a dev
@WebG & Mark ThX, very perceptive if WebG ;) & as i happen to know 'a little bit of codng myself..' lolz ;-oO @Martin u r mising my meaning '.. those two had wanted and got' b/c u not '.. understand any of that! ' -- muh clientes abt 2 years back got what wanted (from me).
