Looking for some advice. I need to get the public viewable content of the site to show up in google search results.
After searching here, as well as googling web, I found this page where the solution is to add the rss as sitemaps in google webmaster tools
http://community.elgg.org/discussion/view/1192327/elgg-seo-google-not-indexing-blog-articles
I tried adding it but get a not found error(404), so I think I am not providing it a proper rss feed
I searched again and found this for an older elgg version
http://community.elgg.org/plugins/385064/1.0/planphoria-elgg-siteindex-generator
This which looks like it will work with modern versions
http://community.elgg.org/plugins/1077524/0.3/auto-sitemap-dinamic-seo-sitemapxml-generation
and even this, a 3rd party program
http://enarion.net/tools/phpsitemapng/
I am running 1.8.16
How does the community get their content indexed properly within a short time period?
Are any of the plugins here useful?
Why was this not functionality not built into elgg core(or am I missing something)?

just make sure your site is not private and it is public so when people go to your site and they are not logged in they can see site blogs pages and content, you dont need a plugin just lots of good content and a site that has some traffic and has been submited to google and web master tools and all google site applications etc
As I stated, I am unable to submit it to google webmaster tools in it's current form
Yes, the content that people see when they are not logged in is what I want to share, the public content.
you need to use analytics then try again for webmaster tools use site submitters you will get into google inbox me i will send you links to get your site into google if it is not already in google? if your site is in google then your content will be there soon too work on your seo and social skills
you must not understand me, and I can barely understand your run-on sentence. Thank you, but I will wait for someone else that understands the problem
ok well i had your problem and it is solved now so good luck with that lol
@ɥɔuıɹƃ lɐʇıƃıp Try this tool: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
Also, I've tried this script http://enarion.net/tools/phpsitemapng/ on my first Elgg websites
I don't believe the community does anything special to be indexed. I have other elgg sites that are indexed fine without any changes from default. You can see the plugins used for the community in the elgg github repositories.
@Matt Beckett That's right! We don't generate sitemaps now
UK - I appreciate your willingness to help, but it looks like your suggestion is to try the very thing that I was doing unsuccessfully.
RVR - Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that xml sitemap tool
EDIT - Just tried it, it is a paid service since elgg sites have well over 500 pages. Are there any free services? This site is not profitable
EDIT - Going to try that php script that makes maps
i tried lol : )
