i have been creating a new plugin here which extends the easytabs plugin to apply ajax loading to the tabbed areas of elgg.
i have coded this almost non stop for 10+ days! lol.. mainly because i haven't used jquery much before and am also new to a lot of other areas of code that i am using here.
i now have the plugin so that members, groups and main entity lists (e.g. blog, videolist, tidypics etc.) load dynamically and smoothly. the river page is also done and there is vertical ajax loading to extend lists via ajax pagination too.
in fact, here's the description i started writing for the readme:
features:
--------
todo:
----
if anyone would like to help me here and accelerate the coding then let me know and we can setup a shared approach somehow, possibly using github.
regardless i will possibly have a version for testing by the community in the next few days.

oh i forgot to add, that i also added a feature that hides the full comment text on the river/activity page, that can be expanded or re-hidden with a click.
interesting, are you gonna release this soon?
i am debugging and testing here presently. i have at least 2-3 more days of playing with the code to get it to a level of readiness for the community here. so yes, soon.
I will be interested to see this. My previous attempts to streamline this have not yielded reliable results.
Any reason you are not using Jquery UI tabs?
"Any reason you are not using Jquery UI tabs?"
i didn't know it existed.. ;)
plus the easytabs approach was already part coded in the elgg community..
plus easytabs is described as being intended to be 'better than other existing methods'..
since it works nicely, i am using it.
:) Fair enough. Looking forward to seeing what you came up with
i just uploaded the current code to my live site for some testing.. presently the tidypics listings are not functional 100% and some of the other more hidden tabbed pages are not ajaxed yet.
i am still seeing some occaisional elgg.echo javascript title glitches where the titles aren't correctly passed through.. i'm not sure how to resolve that yet.
anyhow you can see how it looks and runs here:
http://www.infiniteeureka.com/zones/all
without logging in you can only see the co-creators and zones pages with their tabs.
hmmm.. now i am wondering about the practicality of repeating the tab-ajax solution but for entire pages and treating the main navigation as tabs. :)
ah, i removed the code from my live site as opera didn't play nicely with it
i just came back to look at this plugin again - the glitch with group_tools has been fixed by the latest version of group_tools - so now i can finish supajax.
the code is here if anyone wants to assist: https://github.com/propertunist/elgg-supajax
(i am temporarily unable to upload to github)
