Notable changes

This minor release has a focus on deprecating a lot of 'old style' code. We do this in this version as we want to give developers a longer period to update their code. The deprecated code will be removed in Elgg 5.0. Check the upgrade notes for a full list of all the deprecated functions.

We also tried to address some long standing issues.

  • Group selection when starting a discussion

If you have enabled 'global' discussions you can now select a (optional) group when starting a discussion.

  • Registration always allowed with an invite code

You can now invite people to join your site even if registration is disabled. If they have an invite code (from the invite friends plugin) they can join your site.

  • System log features improved

We now also track if a notification is queued/dequeued for a given entity. In the system log you can view those events. This could help you analyze notification issues in the system. We also added some more filter options to the system log refine options and a shortcut in the entity menu.

  • User deletion flow

As an admin you can delete a user. From now on you will get an additional confirmation page with some information about the user you are deleting.

  • FontAwesome zip upload

If you need FontAwesome Pro icons you can now upload the zip to your site. This will replace the free icons set with the icons in the zip. An admin can find this feature under Configure -> Site Icons.

You can read the full release notes on Github. Developers should also have a look at the upgrade notes to see which changes might impact their plugins.
