Mobile Disable CKEDITOR v2.3

  • Dear @polymak977,

In your instruction bellow you wrote how to install the plugin, but I am confused. I would appreciate some vlarigications.

    Instruction:

    1. Download ---- understood
    2. Remove the MOD folder elgg ---- ? What you mean? This "MOD" folder path is where? As you wrote "from elgg" .... so "/elgg/MOD/" is where ? Can you give a relative path? Are you reffering to
    root/vender/elgg/mod/?

    3. "Then activate" - ? Active what?  " what did I disable? I didn't! "and after activating the plugin" - ? Which one are you reffering? "and ckeditor Disable Mobile ckeditor" - you mean activate this plugin after activating something before this? , "use UPGRADE system to update." - understood

    4. Here, you now test your mobile appreil. - understood

  • Remove the MOD folder elgg - Dont remove the mod folder remove the plugin folder inside mod if any old version of the plugin exist. (i.e., mod in application root folder)

Then activate - When you add plugin folder by default it is in "Deactivated" mode. You need to enable the plugin.

  • Installing a plugin:

    • copy the plugin folder in the mod directory,
    • activate the plugin,
    • in general: check if a plugin has a settings page and adjust the settings.

    Upgrading a plugin:

    • disabling the plugin,
    • remove the plugin folder from within the mod directory,
    • copy the plugin folder of the new version in the mod directory,
    • re-activate the plugin,
    • check if any plugin settings might have to be changed or if new plugin settings were added (if the plugin has any at all).

The reason for removing the plugin folder of the old version before installing a new version is that you can be sure that no files remain from the old version that might no longer be included in the new version. Such files would not necessarily cause problems but in some cases they can do. Therefore, easy and safe way to avoid these kind of problems if by first removing the old plugin folder.

Clicking on the site upgrade shouldn't be necessary because on every deactivation or activation of a plugin the site cache gets flushed automatically. Though it doesn't hurt to check if the plugin itself has some pending upgrades (for example to be executed from the plugin's settings page).

  • I wana thank both Rohit and @iionly for their best efforts in explaining... but unfortunately this is way above my IQ.

  • copy the plugin folder in the mod directory, activate the plugin,in general: check if a plugin has a settings page and adjust the settings.

--- you mean upload the Mobile Disable CKEDITOR v2.3 plug, extract to /mod/
Activate from admin panel. -- This particular plug doesn't have a setting option. This part is well understood.

"Upgrading a plugin" : ok ... flushed and upgraded. - understood.

disabling the plugin,? Which one CKEditor core or
    Mobile Disable CKEDITOR v2.3?

remove the "plugin folder" from within the mod directory, ?? Which one Core Editor or Mobile Disable CKEDITOR v2.3?

"copy the plugin folder of the new version in the mod directory." ?? Do you mean removing the "plugin" folder from "CKEditor/Vendor/Plugin" and replace it with the 'View' folder file of Mobile Disable CKEDITOR v2.3?

"re-activate the plugin, check if any plugin settings might have to be changed or if new plugin settings were added (if the plugin has any at all)." ? I am lost in Translation.

"The reason for removing the plugin folder of the old version before installing a new version is that you can be sure that no files remain from the old version that might no longer be included in the new version. Such files would not necessarily cause problems but in some cases they can do. Therefore, easy and safe way to avoid these kind of problems if by first removing the old plugin folder." --- understand the reason.

"Clicking on the site upgrade shouldn't be necessary because on every deactivation or activation of a plugin the site cache gets flushed automatically. Though it doesn't hurt to check if the plugin itself has some pending upgrades (for example to be executed from the plugin's settings " --- got this part.

But unless and until the above ?? Paragraphs are cleared unable to do any thing.

  • All plugin of elgg is installed, activated and deactivated in the same way. So now tell us what is your confusion?

  • The instructions giver here to install the "Mobile Disable CKEDITOR" plugin are indeed confusing and partly misleading. The instructions I posted are valid in general for any 3rd party plugin installation and upgrade. The "Mobile Disable CKEDITOR" plugin can be installed in the same way as any other plugin. It requires the bundled CKEditor plugin to stay enabled (for providing the editor for users not using a mobile device).

  • Dear Rohit, Iionly,

I think I have understood from the last (above) reply of iionly. Only thing is it doesnt work.

  • Seems to work for me. I just enabled it on Elgg 2.3 (with CKeditor plugin also enabled) and when I visit a page with a smartphone (= mobile device) where the CKeditor would show up on a desktop computer I just get a plain text input field now. But I don't see the point of disabling the editor as you would get raw html code when editing any existing content then. And I'm pretty sure a lot of users will be lost how to edit raw html without making mistakes. Ckeditor should work find on mobile devices so why bother?
