Community Site Upgraded

As part of our effort to actively use the latest codebase in production we've succeeded in upgrading the community to the 1.9 release candidate, and will be keeping it up to date with the 1.9 branch going forward.  While we initially wanted the upgrade to coincide with the release of 1.9.0-rc.1, we were set back a week with a few additional plugin updates.  With this upgrade we get a more responsive theme based on the bundled Aalborg_theme, as well as better discussions UI for new users (no longer have to figure out to join a group to posting your first discussion!)

Thanks to Ismayil Khayredinov and Per Jensen for their help testing and fixing community plugins and theme for 1.9.

The upgrade scripts took 1 hour 15min to complete on production.  This included

  • 74,039 discussion replies
  • 74,019 data directories
  • Thanks for the update and the information about it matt.

It will be nice if we can have links to other elgg pages, like home, download, blog, docs too etc in the top.

The links in the footers are not so readily visible. Consider using some bright colors for them.

Thanks Per for the nice contribution.

  • yes i agree with team webgalli footer is not look that much good .. make some modification ..

    congrats for the core developers......

lets join together and make Elgg best open source social network engine ..

  • It's looking great, fresh, and a lot more 'of the time', and that's only the 'looks'. Thanks @Per for that!
Looking forward to see all the other advantages of 1.9 on this community.

I'm pretty sure this is going to give a boost to Elgg's potentional users.
Now it's time to get rid of the 'icons' & 'gradients' on the plugin and landingpage :)

  • Oh, and in the case you guys want to stick with icons and images, I'd be happy to contribute by designing the custom icons you guys need. I'm a professional graphic designer and typographer in real life, and I have no problem for doing unconditional graphic work for the community site

  • Wow!

This is extremely good! The community site feels modern, slick and smooth.

Congratulations! 1.9 is a big improvement over 1.8!

  • Very nice! Thank you. Is the search box not accessible for non-logged*in users anymore? I do remember as if it was before? Best Regards.

  • I love the 1.9 theme! My website is also based off of Aalborg_theme :)

  • Thanks for doing this, guys! Love that it's more mobile-friendly and just prettier in general. Great job with Aalborg, Per Jensen!

  • Lovely with the positive feedback on the Aalborg theme. Thank you all.

And it's really cool that you already upgraded the community site to the new branch so that we can enjoy all the improvements here.

@driesdk Would be great if you and Per would join forces to make Elgg look even better!
